• VPN still working after rebooting without client - DrayTek client shows "No Connection"

  My home network is a simple router + pc's setup, nothing fancy - the router has DHCP enabled for 192.168.0.X (255.255.255.0) and my PC picks up the address 192.168.0.82. There are no devices on my local lan in the 192.168.1.x range. On my pc i have the DrayTek VPN client, and a company i do some work for has a DrayTek Vigor router. The VPN client establishes a VPN to that remote company using an IPSec Tunnel (PreShared Key - no encryption) Last night i shut down my pc with the VPN tunnel still connected, when i turned my computer on this morning i accidentally clicked an RDP shortcut to 192.168.1.2 (a host in the remote company) and to my amazement it connected?!? My Question: Can an IPSec tunnel stay up some how after a reboot without use of the VPN client? (well, i can clearly see that it can) - where in windows is there visibility of this? how does my machine know where to route the packets? I appreciate any insights & thoughts!

But, today I do not see this option. More over, I do not think I have a solution file, and I think that has something to do with it. I'm aware there are web application projects and web site model, and web site model is basically just a "directory". But can web site model, also, have a solution file for this setting or not a solution file? What determines that? I am interested in using this method on on a web site, i.e directory only model.

• Need some serious help with self join issue.

  Well as you may know, you cannot index a view with a self join. Well actually even two joins of the same table, even if it's not technically a self join. A couple of guys from microsoft came up with a work around. But it's so complicated I don't understand it!!! • How do I use a command line tool to install .net 4 to IIS

  I'm trying to deploy my WCF RIA services application to our in-house server for testing. I've been following the instructions and comments from this blog site: http://timheuer.com/blog/archive/2009/12/10/tips-to-deploy-ria-services-troubleshoot.aspx At the end someone points to this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1528324/how-to-solve-a-http-error-404-3-not-found-error I've been trying to run that same tool with .net 4.0 but it keeps giving me an error: [Warning]The HTTP namespace reservation already exists. I am running the version of the exe that I found inside of C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.21006 There is also C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\Windows Communication Foundation that has (what I assume is) the same exe in it, and I can use it just fine. I've tried to un-install the 3.0 version before installing the 4.0 version, but I am still getting the same warning and failure. Has anyone successfully done this with .net 4.0?

  I'm having difficulty using reinterpret_cast. Before I show you my code I'll let you know what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to get a filename from a vector full of data being used by a MIPS I processor I designed. Basically what I do is compile a binary from a test program for my processor, dump all the hex's from the binary into a vector in my c++ program, convert all of those hex's to decimal integers and store them in a DataMemory vector which is the data memory unit for my processor. I also have instruction memory. So When my processor runs a SYSCALL instruction such as "Open File" my C++ operating system emulator receives a pointer to the beginning of the filename in my data memory. So keep in mind that data memory is full of ints, strings, globals, locals, all sorts of stuff. When I'm told where the filename starts I do the following: Convert the whole decimal integer element that is being pointed to to its ASCII character representation, and then search from left to right to see if the string terminates, if not then just load each character consecutively into a "filename" string. Do this until termination of the string in memory and then store filename in a table. My difficulty is generating filename from my memory. • Where would you document standardized complex data that is passed between many objects and methods?

  Hi All, I often find myself with fairly complex data that represents something that my objects will be working on. For example, in a task-list app, several objects might work with an array of tasks, each of which has attributes, temporal expressions, sub tasks and sub sub tasks, etc. One object will collect data from web forms, standardize it into a format consumable by the class that will save them to the database, another object will pull them from the database, put them in the standard format and pass them to the display object, or the update object, etc. The data itself can become a fairly complex series of arrays and sub arrays, representing a 'task' or list of tasks. For example, the below might be one entry in a task list, in the format that is consumable by the various objects that will work on it. Normally, I just document this in a file somewhere with an example. However, I am thinking about the best way to add it to something like PHPDoc, or another standard doc system. Where would you document your consumable data formats that are for many or all of the objects / methods in your app?   How can I make simple format-type customizations to ALL OOTB workflow related emails? I have found that many pre-Sharepoint 2010 posts indicated that OOTB workflow emails are in fact 'alerts', and therefore OOTB workflow emails could be customized using the same technique which is: making a customized version of alerttemplates.xml and even using IAlertNotifyHandler to intercept all alert emails. However, it seems that OOTB workflow and workflow task emails are not affected by changes to my customalerttemplates.xml file (which I do follow with stsadm updatealerttemplates, iisreset, and timer service restart). • How can I avoid Windows 8.1 resetting my font size?

  I am using Windows 8.1 on my laptop, which has a 15.6" screen with resolution 1366x768. I measured the screen with a ruler and calculated its DPI, which is 101. Therefore, I have set the scaling to 105%. However, when I change to an external monitor, which is a huge one with resolution 1920x1080 and DPI 93, I need to change the scaling to 97% but when I change the DPI back and forth, my font sizes have get resetted. I prefer using font sizes 14 on my title bars, message boxes and icons and font sizes 13 on my palette titles, menus and tooltips. However, as my laptop screen is too small, in order to make my apps fit on screen, I use font sizes 12 on my title bars, message boxes and icons and font sizes 11 on my palette titles, menus and tooltips. I don't know why I can't resize the window to make it larger than my screen in Windows (but it is possible in Kubuntu), therefore, some parts of my apps cannot be shown with my preferred font size. I have tried changing both the DPI and the font size by using .reg files. However, on my laptop screen, after I applied the file, signed out and in, the DPI setting changed, but the font sizes were resetted to tiny, and I had to apply the same file, signed out and in again to get the correct font size. The situation is even worse on my external monitor. After I applied the file, signed out and in, both the DPI setting and the font sizes were resetted to their default values, which were 96 DPI (the physical DPI as measured by dividing the resolution by the physical size is 93) and font size 9, which is totally unacceptable. How can I write the .reg files such that the settings can be correctly applied with a single sign in?

• MVC - Loading DLL programmactically

  I'm trying to implement a plugable architecture in asp.net MVC. I have based my modules on the following article - http://www.wynia.org/wordpress/2008/12/aspnet-mvc-plugins. I have a DLL that contains a simple controller, and a view. The view is an embedded resource within the DLL. The problem I'm having is, if I drop the DLL in the bin directory of my MVC application manually, then everything works perfectly i.e. the assembly loads correctly. But when I copy the DLL from a file upload input box (via a web form) into the bin directoy, I get an error (The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest.) when trying to load the assembly. I use the same DLL, what could the problem be?

• encoding of =1 in emails

  Hi folks, I have probably a stupid problem. In a script I generate a URL with GET parameters, something like 'www.mydomain.com/index.php?item=1234'. This URL will be sent by PHP through mail() in an UTF-8 encoding (the scriptfile itself also is utf-8). Now each time I have the GET-Parameter with two numbers after the '=' the URL in the email looks like 'www.mydomain.com/index.php?item?34' with a rectangle instead of '=12'. I am sure there is an easy way to fix this? Thanks in advance, Maenny

But the problem is : That my setup ALWAYS installs it even if my computer already has Office2007PIA. How can I configure my setup project that it will first check if Office2007PIA is installed and continue the installation of my project without installing Office2007PIA? Thanks!

  I ran into an issue by introducing floating point columns in the MySQL database schema that the comparisons on floating point values don't return the correct results always. 1 - 50.12 2 - 34.57 3 - 12.75 4 - ...(rest all less than 12.00) SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `users` WHERE `points` > "12.75" This returns me "3". I have read that the comparisons of floating point values in MySQL is a bad idea and decimal type is the better option. Do I have any hope of moving ahead with the float type and get the comparisons to work correctly?

• Unable to Calculate Position within Owner-Draw Text

  I'm trying to use Visual Studio 2012 to create a Windows Forms application that can place the caret at the current position within a owner-drawn string. However, I've been unable to find a way to accurately calculate that position. I've done this successfully before in C++. I've now tried numerous methods in C#. Originally, I tried using .NET classes to determine the correct position, but then I tried accessing the Windows API directly.
